Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Goring and Streatley lies between two of the 41 designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) across England and Wales, which, together with National Parks, represent the UK’s finest landscapes. Click here to view plan...

Streatley is in the North Wessex Downs AONB and Goring is in the Chilterns AONB.

West Berkshire Council Planning Department classify an AONB as equivalent to a Natural Park and are dedicated to not only protecting and conserving them as National Assets, but also enhancing them where practical.

The AONB is the highest level and most important level of 'Policy Protection' for West Berkshire Council against inappropriate planning development for Streatley.
As a result of the Countryside and Rights of Way (CROW) Act adopted in 2000, new types of organisation to care for AONB's are being set up. The first in the country is a Conservation Board for the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, set up on 14th December 2004.

It should be noted that no part of Goring or Streatley is in a designated Green Belt Area, which is a lower classification than an AONB. Click here to view plan...
