The West Berkshire Planning Strategy is the
lead document, the Core Strategy, of our Local Development Framework
(LDF). This will set out the overall planning strategy for the
area and will be the basis for all subsequent documents produced
as part of the Local Development Framework.
The Council produced a Core Strategy in 2006 and there was broad
agreement on the overall approach which was to focus development
on West Berkshire's urban areas. This was submitted to Government
in September 2006 but had to be withdrawn following advice from
the Government and Planning Inspectorate that it contained insufficient
detail regarding development sites.
They are now producing a revised Core Strategy, which aims to
build on the principles of the previous version. As part of
this work the Council is currently considering options for the
location of housing development to help shape the revised Core
Strategy.
Between 23rd November 2007 and 11th January 2008 they are holding
an informal consultation period on this matter and your comments
are invited.
In summary the document identifies urban areas for this development
"as long as the key environmental assets, namely the AONB
and the functional floodplain in the valley of the River Kennet
to the south of Reading, are safeguarded".
With respect to Streatley we would particularly refer you to
sections 9.3, 21, 22 and 28 of the comment document.
