January 2005 - Gladedale felling trees on Conservation Area
land.
On Monday 17th
January Contractors working for Gladedale were seen cutting
back trees along the river bank of their land on the East of
Vicarage Lane. Our investigations show that they were doing
this at the request of the Environment Agency as the trees were
obstructing navigation. Not withstanding this we were advised
by the West Berkshire Council Tree Preservation Department that
this was being carried out without Gladedale having first consulted
them regarding the work. This is a serious matter as all trees
in a Conservation Area are protected. Land
Block 5 on the aerial photo shows the land in question.
