Letters
Letters to the appropriate parties form the backbone of
any opposition campaign, and at the appropriate
time we will call on supporters to write
to the Council and other relevant parties. The
West Berkshire Council Planning Department cannot effectively
react to letters on the subject at this stage –
hold your fire. The West Berkshire Council can
only take notice of individual opposition letters once
a planning application has been made. These will be one
of the most important opposition tools we will have.

For your information, greater than 10 letters,
or greater than 20 signatures on a petition, ensures that any
application is not dealt with under delegated powers but goes
to full Planning Committee for a decision.
In the event of a Gladedale Planning Application being submitted
we will provide comprehensive instructions for your letters,
however if you do wish to write in the meantime, any letters
should be sent to the West
Berkshire Council and copied to our District Councillor
and the Streatley Preservation Action Group. For your convenience
we will copy your hardcopy letters to the Streatley Parish Council.

Caution:
It is our opinion, and that of individuals associated with planning
issues, that it was/is inadvisable
for residents to write to Green Issues and Gladedale –
these should have been written to the West Berkshire and Parish
Councils. Writing to Green Issues or Gladedale only serves to
play into their hands.
It enables them: |
a. To engage
residents in supposed 'consultation' and shift the argument
from whether there should be any development at all, towards
instead, the nature of the development. b.
To present to a future enquiry, that they consulted with the
residents and they only received some (say 12) responses. Furthermore,
they will say they have professionally developed solutions for
all the objections in their subsequent planning application.
Thereby attempting to pull the rug from under us. c.
Encourage those affected to believe that they will somehow gain
in the process, and the impact on the village will be offset
by their inducements (forgetting the precedent it creates for
further development). Whereas in reality only Gladedale would
be the winner in the event that any planning permission is granted. |
