Background

Our Group was formed in August 2004 initially to oppose the development plans associated with land purchased by Gladedale Urban Development Limited from Mr Geoffrey Minter (previously resident at Streatley House). Our main concern was that there appeared to be no co-ordinated approach to the opposition of Gladedale's proposals.

We held three Meetings, on the 1st, 12th and 16th September 2004, at the Village Hall (Morrell Room) to inform residents regarding the purchasers and their associated companies, the land, and the potential threat to the village.

At these meetings attendees highlighted the benefit of expanding the aims of the Group to encompass other potential development threats and positive campaigns for benefits and enhancements to the village. In particular the possible benefits were raised of a Parish Plan being produced and adopted into planning policy.

Once the STOP Gladedale Group's initial tasks had been completed, culminating in the completion of a pre-planning application Petition, it was agreed in November 2004, to establish the Streatley Preservation Action Group as the umbrella organisation, under which various campaigns could run.
