This is an Urgent Appeal for funds to assist the SPC in the purchase of all the Gladedale owned land in the centre of the village (about 14.5 acres), to protect it from development.
In particular it is a request for donations to obtain the fields opposite Streatley House for the village (i.e. the "North Area" AND "Church Meadow" on this map...).
SPAG has been quietly working behind the scenes over the last year to support the Parish Council in our common aim to purchase this Gladedale owned land. This is now a unique window of opportunity for the village to secure this land - but it is a window that could soon close. Although we would fight it, as vehemently as we have to date, Gladedale could challenge planning policy to secure a development opportunity in the near future. It is ONLY ownership by the SPC on behalf of the village which guarantees that the land will never be developed.
This is an opportunity that must not be missed. For my part I see this in terms of an increase in the value of all property in the Goring Gap, and in particular for Streatley residents - an investment that would be returned if ever one were to sell. An amenity procured for ourselves, our successors and future residents.
I appreciate you may have attended the recent SPC AGM or received their leaflet recently, but I hope this email gives you the opportunity to circulate this appeal as widely as possible -- e.g. to Goring friends and acquaintances, friends or work colleagues who visit our villages, or even relatives and "Friends of Streatley" abroad!
To those less familiar with the land in question please refer to this map and aerial photo, with the Gladedale land identified.
PLEASE CONSIDER A LARGE DONATION FOR YOUR HOUSEHOLD, IF WE FAIL TO RAISE THE NECESSARY FUNDS BY THE END OF THIS MONTH THE THREAT OF DEVELOPMENT IN THE HEART OF OUR VILLAGE WILL CONTINUE TO HANG OVER US.
For our part (aside from the personal donations of Committee Members), the SPAG Committee have agreed to donate £1,000 (which is the major portion of the SPAG fund holding).
Yours sincerely ~ Ivan Scott - SPAG Secretary
