Our Aims

Objective

To represent Streatley residents working for the preservation of our unique village character, its scenic views and its environs. In particular we are dedicated to preserve its rural aspects and oppose any residential or other urban development on land outside the village Settlement Boundary.

Promote and Lobby

We intend to promote all perceived benefits and enhancements to the village and surrounding area and lobby for appropriate changes to the West Berkshire Local Development Framework.

Awareness
We aim to alert and raise the awareness of residents and appropriate organisations to any proposals threatening to degrade the character of the village and its environs.

Co-ordinate
We propose to spearhead and
co-ordinate opposition amongst
The High Street leading to Wallingford/Reading Road
Streatley residents to specific planning applications and similar development proposals which we believe would detrimentally alter the existing character of the village.

Why are we opposed to any development outside the Settlement Boundary?
Development within the settlement boundary is administered by the West Berkshire Council and is reviewed by the Streatley Parish Council. Development outside it must be opposed at any cost. This is because the very essence of Streatley, located as it is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), is its open spaces, rural environment, and listed buildings at the heart of the village. Creating the precedent of even one house outside this current Boundary could allow other adjacent landowners to apply for residential development, citing the precedent. Very soon Streatley as you know it, and the quality of life that it gives us and all the thousands of visitors who enjoy its tranquil and unspoilt surroundings, will be gone forever. Ribbon development could ensue, and every one will say "If only we had objected at the beginning".

Other Organisations
We have agreed to work in co-operation with the Goring & Streatley Amenity Association and we liaise closely with the Streatley Parish Council on matters related to the preservation of the village.
